How to Make a Simple Knitting Needle Case (free knitting pattern for beginners)
If you're like me and like to knit, you probably have a lot of knitting needles rattling around in various places. I had that problem too, so I decided to knit a case for all my needles, including my DP needles.
This is a fairly simple project you can work on while watching a movie, riding in the car, or waiting somewhere. And it knits up quickly enough that you can be planning your next project while working on this, making it one of my favorite free knitting patterns for beginners.
Cast on Your Stitches
You need to cast on the right number of stitches to make this pattern to work. The total number of stitches to cast on is a multiple of three, plus two more. For example, mine has 60 stitches (a multiple of 3) plus two more, for a total of 62 stitches.
If you cast on 62 stitches, it will make 20 "ridges," which will hold 10 sets of needles. If you have a larger knitting needle collection, just cast on more stitches.
Free Knitting Pattern for Needle Case
The pattern is very simple, especially because it does not require knitting in the round. It is knit from the bottom up.First row: Knit all
Second row: Purl two, knit one until last two stitches. End the row with two purl stitches.
Second row: Purl two, knit one until last two stitches. End the row with two purl stitches.
Continue this pattern until the case is as long as needed to hold regular and DP needles. If you find that your pattern is off, it's because you either purled when you should have knitted, or knitted when you should have purled. You can either pull out your work back to the mistake, or pick up the pattern where you should be.
When your case is long enough to hold your needles, it is time to finish it off. Just cast off using your favorite cast off method.
To use your knitting needle case, slide each needle into one of the ridges. Roll the case up and tie it with a pretty ribbon.
